I wish I could answer that question for you. Unfortunately, I really don’t think I can. In fact, I’m going to do something deeply infuriating and answer your question with one of my own.

When you say, ‘What’s the best self-help product for me?’ what specifically do you mean when you say ‘me’?

Now I don’t want to get tangled up in an existential debate, here. The nature of reality and identity will have to wait for another time. However, just think back over the last couple of days. Think about a situation when you were relaxed (taking a deep bath, maybe). Mull over a situation when you were worked up (your computer kept crashing). Think about a situation when you were fuming (your computer still kept crashing and the IT support people suggested you try switching it off and back on again). Think about a time when you were in high spirits (drinking perfect coffee with loving friends). Consider all those times: was it in actuality the same ‘me’ who occupied each of those little moments in time? Is the livid ‘me’ the same as the content ‘me’? For most of us, the answer is no. We are not the same person from one day to the next, and on our more turbulent days, we’re not even the same individual from one moment to the next.

Walt Whitman put it most succinctly, I think, when he wrote ‘I contain multitudes’.

We all do. We each of us ‘contain multitudes’.
