A Brief History of The Law of Attraction

Many of the products in the Happiness Superstore refer to The Law of Attraction, or the 7 Laws of Attraction. You may well have encountered the phrase before, in reference to Rhonda Byrne’s book ‘The Secret’, and the subsequent, highly-successful film of the same name. Perhaps, you’ve come across Esther Hicks’ New York Times’ bestselling book ‘The Law of Attraction’. The Law of Attraction has even featured on the likes of the Larry King show, so it can hardly be considered an esoteric mystery anymore.
In a nutshell, The Law of Attraction states that ‘Like attracts like’, that ‘you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your experience’. We’ll leave it up to the various authors whose products can be found in our store to go into the detail.
We’d just like to take this opportunity to give you something of a potted history of The Law of Attraction. It would be easy to think the Law of Attraction and its numerous offshoots are a new phenomenon. Perhaps, as a ‘phenomenon’, they are new, certainly in terms of mass popularity. But, strictly speaking, the Law of Attraction, as a notion, has been around for a good deal longer than the handful of years it has featured prominently in the modern media.
The principles that underpin The Law of Attraction can be found in one of the world’s oldest religions: Hinduism. It is possible that an interest in Hinduism lead the idea to be adopted and developed in later theosophical works. For example, the famous Victorian spiritualist, Madame Blavatsky, used the expression ‘The Law of Attraction’ in her 1877 book ‘Isis Unveiled: the Secrets of the Ancient Wisdom Traditions’. Twenty-five years later, James Allen (editor and publisher of ‘The Light of Reason’ magazine) alludes to the same principals in his book ‘As a Man Thinketh’, developing his ideas from the Jewish proverb ‘As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is’. The driving notion behind the book is that noble thoughts make a noble person, whilst lowly thoughts make a miserable person. One of Allen’s best known quotations is “Mind is the master weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance”.
Four years after ‘As a Man Thinketh’ was published, with the advance of the New Thought Movement, the principal of The Law of Attraction begins to increase momentum. In 1906, the book ‘Thought Vibration or The Law of Attraction in the Thought World’ by William Walker Atkinson is published. The following year, ‘Prosperity Through Thought Force’ by Bruce MacLelland is published. One of the founders of the original Theosophical Society, William Quan Judge wrote about The Law of Attraction in 1915, as did Annie Besant (founder of the Central Hindu College at Varanasi) in 1919.
Thereafter, there is a steady stream of theosophists and metaphysical authors who refer to The Law of Attraction, including Alice Bailey, Florence Scovel Shinn (author of ‘The Game of Life and How to Play it’ 1925) and Sri K. Parvathi Kumar, leading right up to the present day to the likes of Esther Hicks, Beth and Lee McCain and, most recently, Rhonda Byrne.
The influence of The Law of Attraction is thought to be detectable in many books that promote positive thinking, even though their authors make no reference to the subject and may even be openly hostile to the notion. Whatever the case, The Law of Attraction has an undeniable longevity and has made a considerable impact.

James Allen and 'As a Man Thinketh'

About James Allen:
James Allen was born on 28th November 1864 in Leicester, England. When Allen was only 15 years of age, his father was robbed and murdered, forcing Allen to leave school and begin work in order to help support his family. Until he was introduced to the works of Tolstoy at the age of 38, Allen’s life was one of relatively undistinguished commerce. Following his encounter with the writings of the great Russian novelist (whose doctrine of non-resistance would later inspire Mahatma Ghandi), Allen (along with his wife, Lily and Daughter, Nohra) moved to Ilfracombe in the Devon countryside to live a life of contemplation and rural simplicity.
Over the next nine years, he produced 19 works and edited and published (along with Lily), the philosophical magazine The Light of Reason. The central notion of the majority of Allen’s books is that the power of thought can be harnessed to improve the individual and their circumstances. The most famous example of this philosophy is contained within the 1902 classic, As a Man Thinketh. This book is considered by many to be one of the foundation stones of the self-help and New Thought movements.
James Allen died in 1912.

As a Man Thinketh: an Overview
Allen says, “A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts. A noble... character... is the natural result of continued effort in right thinking... An ignoble and bestial character... is the result of... grovelling thoughts. Man can... watch... and alter his thoughts, tracing their effects upon himself, upon others, upon his life and circumstances.”
Essentially, Allen is saying that good thoughts lead to good character, bad thoughts lead to bad character. He goes on to state that you can choose the kind of thoughts you have, because you are always the master (or manager) of your thoughts. It is sometimes the case that you mismanage your thoughts, but never that you fail to manage them at all. You can learn to observe your thoughts, to take note of the effect they have upon you, your life and those around you. You can then alter your thoughts and, by extension, improve yourself, your life and even the lives of those around you.
Allen elucidates further: “Thought and character are one, and as character can only manifest... itself through environment and circumstance... a person’s life will always be harmoniously related to his inner state.” In other words, our outer circumstances are a direct result of our thoughts. Bad thoughts ultimately lead to bad circumstances, good thoughts to good circumstances. Allen illustrates this with an equation of sorts: bad thoughts crystallise into bad habits, bad habits solidify into bad circumstances
The constant, exhausting battle against circumstances is utterly pointless, if you yourself are the creator of those circumstances. You must first change yourself, and to do this you must change your thoughts.
Once we cease to blame circumstances and others for our situation, we can focus all that time and energy on understanding what it is about ourselves, which thoughts, brought us to this place, this situation. And then we can attempt to change those thoughts.

A Self-Esteem Journal as a Tool for Tackling Low Esteem and Increasing Confidence

As a writer and editor for a self-improvement online store, I come across all kinds of interesting methods for improving personal happiness and tackling low esteem. Some are a little kooky and out-there and some, like the self-esteem journal, are pure common sense and undeniably effective.

The philosopher and spiritual writer, James Allen, believed that an individual's personal circumstances were fully within his or her control, because those circumstances, far from being the result of external factors acting upon the individual, were actually created by that individual's own thoughts.

Thoughts, Allen tells us in his timeless classic (and highly recommended) 'As a Man Thinketh' crystallise into habits, and those habits solidify into circumstances. If we can capture our thoughts, observe them, then change them, we can alter our circumstances very much for the better. Nowhere is this more true than in the case of low esteem, a condition that has its roots firmly embedded in the thoughts of the sufferer.

This is where the self-esteem journal comes into play. Some recommend that the self-esteem journal be used for capturing and exploring those moments when the sufferer of low esteem feels at a low-ebb. While there are undeniable benefits to this, there is a danger that one is simply looking at the impact of low esteem and not at the root causes, focussing on the smoke and ignoring the fire. Instead, I would recommend using the journal before any obvious low esteem related incidents occur. Simply capture your thoughts as they emerge whenever you have the chance. Write them down in your self-esteem journal. And remember, you're not interrogating yourself, you're observing yourself. In other words, don't ask yourself 'What am I thinking?', instead, write down what you've just thought.

At the end of each day, go through all the thoughts you've jotted down in your self-esteem journal. Highlight the negative ones. You're not necessarily looking for the cause of your low esteem; you're just interested in capturing harmful thoughts. In a relatively short time, you will become very familiar with your negative thoughts and you will be able to recognise them as they emerge. You can then stop them in their tracks and choose to think something else, something more positive which won't feed your low esteem's appetite for negativity.

For example, if shortly after waking, your first nebulous thought is something along the lines of 'Oh God, another day, another dollar', block it and instead think, 'I wonder if something wonderful will happen to me today'. In your self-esteem journal, write down next to each negative thought, a corresponding positive thought. Practice, until it becomes second nature to replace one thought with another.

Of course, things are rarely as simple as that, and everyone is different. But there is something undeniably persuasive about capturing your thoughts as they emerge, writing them down in your self-esteem journal, making sense of them and then, most importantly of all, choosing to do something about them, taking control of the very seeds that can either erupt as the choking weeds of low esteem or bloom as beautiful flowers of positivity and possibility.

What are the Effects of Law of Attraction Techniques?

The Law of Attraction is quite probably one of the most compelling and certainly one of the most fervently debated of self help techniques to come to prominence in recent memory. We've even seen the Law of Attraction discussed on such mainstream venues as Oprah Winfrey's and Larry King's respective television shows.

That being said, it's a complex topic and before reading the books themselves or subscribing to the various programmes available, it is perfectly reasonable to ask, 'Just what are the effects of Law of Attraction techniques?'

The Law of Attraction states that, 'Like attracts like.' Another way of putting this is to say that positive thoughts create positive outcomes. Another, simpler and perhaps more compelling way of stating this is, 'We get what we wish for.' Most people respond to that statement by arguing that they wish they could win the lottery every week but it never comes true. This is where The Law of Attraction as a learnable technique comes into play. To really wish for something, you have to remove all the negativity and all the self-set booby traps that are coming between you and your happiness.

Once you've really got to grips with clearly, precisely and resolutely projecting your desires, the effects of Law of Attraction techniques should begin to manifest.

The first of the effects of Law of Attraction techniques to become apparent will be a heightened awareness of opportunity. That isn't to say that these opportunities weren't there all along, it was just that your negativity prevented you from seeing them as viable opportunities for you. With The Law of Attraction, this perception will change and you will begin to see opportunities everywhere. Not necessarily, earth-shaking opportunities, but opportunities nevertheless.

The second of the effects of Law of Attraction techniques is likely to be the degree to which you wish. Instead of simply wishing you could get through the working day without your boss giving you too hard a time, you'll find yourself wishing you could be sitting in your boss's chair, or in a company director's chair, or the Chief Executive's chair.

The third of the effects of Law of Attraction techniques will be how focussed and energetic you become, how utterly goal-driven.

And all of this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

When you ask, 'What are the effects of Law of Attraction Techniques likely to be for me?' the very minimum you can hope to expect is an increase in energy and focus, a magnifying of ambition and a genuine heightening of perception when it comes to opportunity.

How's that for a start?

Self Hypnosis and Subliminal Software, an Overview

Not everybody can afford to pay for hypnotherapy sessions. Like psychotherapy, hypnotherapy tends only to be available to those fortunate individuals who happen to have a certain amount of disposable income at their fingertips. And by 'a certain amount', I of course mean: lots.

Consequently, many people are turning to self-hypnosis as a viable alternative. There are numerous systems and techniques out there to assist the budding amateur to achieve a genuine state of self hypnosis: binaural beats, audio CDs, mp3s, various meditative schools, but we're here to discuss a relatively new phenomenon: self hypnosis and subliminal software.

Self hypnosis and subliminal software generally falls into two distinct categories (there are other types, of course: this is a rapidly evolving area).

1) The first kind of self hypnosis and subliminal software allows you to create subliminal audio CDs that are perfectly suited to your personality type. As with any thing 'off-the-shelf' product, ready-made self-hypnosis audio CDs, whilst effective for a great many people, are by their very nature rather generalised in their approach. Creating your own self-hypnosis audio CDs allows you to create something that works with your own very unique mental rhythms and patterns. In a sense, this kind of software can be seen as provoking or engendering the hypnotic state rather than being solely responsible for it. On the whole, this kind of product tends to work in conjunction with others, as part of a suite of activity.

2) The second type of self hypnosis and subliminal software actually helps induce the hypnotic state. This is in effect like having your own personal (but virtual) hypnotherapist. The main difference is that you set the parameters, you give this virtual hypnotherapist all the information it needs to do its job effectively. So, even though we're talking about a virtual hypnotherapist, that hypnotherapist is, in a very real sense, you. Hence: self hypnosis and subliminal software.

As to the effectiveness of either approach, the clue is in the way in which we identify these products: self hypnosis and subliminal software. The word self is right there at the front, leading the way. As, indeed, it should.

In other words, as with everything in life, you get out what you put in.

An Exercise for the Law of Attraction

At heart, The Law of Attraction is about changing the way you see yourself in relation to the rest of the universe, to recreate yourself in a form that you yourself perceive as being worthy of true happiness. This begins with wishing and wanting. But not in the traditional sense of simply fantasising. The problem with fantasising is that you are only too well aware that what you are indulging in is a fantasy. This can often make you feel even less fulfilled.

The Law of Attraction teaches you to wish and want effectively.

Here's an exercise for The Law of Attraction, a simple but effective one. It teaches you to focus your wishes and wants in a very particular fashion, so instead of indulging in airy, formless fantasies, you are creating details, specific and concrete wishes.

An Exercise for The Law of Attraction: Day 1. As soon as you're up and about, visualise receiving a check for $100. Out of the blue, for no reason. A gift from the universe. Take a piece of clean, white paper and write at the top: $100. As the day goes on, list the things you are going to spend your $100 on. As you add each item to the list, visualise going into the store, buying the item. If it's an item of clothing, visualise wearing it. If it's a CD, visualise listening to it. You must spend the entire $100. You can't give it away, and you can't save it for a rainy day. Remember, you're going to transform yourself into the type of person who doesn't have rainy days anymore!

An Exercise for The Law of Attraction: Day 2. As soon as you get up, take a quick look at yesterday's list. Look at all the things you bought with your $100 gift from the universe. Again, visualise possessing those things, visualise enjoying them. Now, visualise receiving another check. Perhaps, the universe saw just how much you appreciated the last one, it wants to give you another. This time, it's a check for $200. Take a nice clean sheet of paper and, repeat yesterday's activity. Again, it's crucial that you really think about what you're going to do with the money and vividly visualise enjoying each purchase.

An Exercise for The Law of Attraction: Day 3. As soon as you're up and about, take the lists from the previous two days and visualise (in fact, never mind visualising, actually remember) enjoying each of your gratis care-of-the-universe purchases. I think you can guess what happens next. That's right, a check for £300!

As an exercise for The Law of Attraction, this is possibly one of the most fundamental. It may seem like a bit of fun, like kids making wish lists of what kind of sports cars they're going to own when their older, but this is a serious exercise. It's about training your mind to not only wish in a focussed and effective manner but to expect these gifts from the universe and to know what to do with them when the inevitably arrive.

What is Manifestation Brain Entrainment?

I think it would best to break this question down into two parts.

Firstly, what is Manifestation?

The American Heritage Dictionary describes 'manifestation' as, "One of the forms in which someone or something, such as a person, a divine being, or an idea, is revealed" and "The materialized form of a spirit".

Manifestation, particularly when used in the context of The Law of Attraction and other similar philosophies and spiritual techniques, is something of an amalgam of those two definitions. That is to say, manifestation in this particular context is probably best described as "the materialized form of an idea."

Put more simply, it is a desire made real. Thoughts become things.

There are many who, whilst believing in Manifestation and The Law of Attraction, think that the human brain isn't capable of achieving the necessary clarity and focus to turn thoughts into things. This leads us neatly into brain entrainment.

So, what is brain entrainment?

Brain entrainment (sometimes referred to as brainwave synchronization) involves using external stimulus to cause brainwave frequency to adopt a particular pattern ideally suited to a particular activity. For example, a 'dreamachine' can produce stroboscopic light patterns that stimulate the optical nerve and alter the brain's electrical oscillations, inducing sleep. Aural stimulus can also be used. Examples include binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic tones.

In effect, brain entrainment can change the way we think.

This leads us back to our first question. What is Manifestation Brain Entrainment?

I suspect you can answer the question for yourself at this point. By using external stimuli, such as binaural beats, you can alter your brainwave patterns in order to achieve the clarity of focus required in order to realize the manifestation techniques taught by Law of Attraction systems such as The Secret.

And that, in a nutshell, is manifestation brain entrainment.

What is the Cosmic Law of Abundance? The Two-Minute Answer

Okay, two minutes. Starting from now.

What is the cosmic law of abundance? The key word here is 'cosmic', as in 'cosmos', as in 'the universe'. The universe is abundant. In fact, the universe is abundance. Everything that ever was, is or will be is a component of the universe. The universe itself is proof of abundance because the universe is abundance.

The notion of scarcity, of the lack of things, is very much a human conceit.

The long established Law of the Conservation of Matter (or Mass) states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed, merely changed from one form into another. In other words, there is no lack, there is no scarcity: everything is there all around you, all the time, in the abundant universe.

This notion of the Cosmic Law of Abundance is central to many self-help and self-improvement systems, such as The Law of Attraction and Cosmic Ordering.

According to The Law of Attraction, thoughts have a particular quality of energy, and this energy attracts energy of a similar quality. In a nutshell: positive thoughts attract positive outcomes and negative thoughts attract negative outcomes. The Law of Attraction tells us that we must know what we want and ask the universe for it, feel and behave as if the object of our desire is on its way to us, and be open to receiving it.

What is the Cosmic Law of Abundance? The really simple answer is this: think positive thoughts and the universe will provide.

Of course, there's a great deal more to it than that, but this is the two-minute answer, after all. However, there are great many books out there on the subject of the Cosmic Law of Abundance and related topics. In fact, there's an abundance of them.

You should have a few seconds to spare. Why not spend them thinking about what you want from the universe?

The Gamma Brainwave and Manifestation in the Law of Attraction

You may have come across various experts and exponents of The Law of Attraction discussing the links between the Gamma brainwave and manifestation. Or, more accurately, the link between the Gamma brainwave and successful manifestation.

So, what is the Gamma brainwave and what is its connection to manifestation and The Law of Attraction?

The Gamma brainwave is the fastest of all the brainwave frequencies (certainly of those that have been successfully and comprehensively studied). The Gamma brainwave typically ranges from anywhere between 28 and more than 80 cps (cycle per second), with each of these cycles comprising an 'on' state (a peak) and an 'off' state (a trough).

The Gamma brainwave is generally only found to be active in the minds of people undergoing extreme mental stress or other mental activity. It is also prevalent in those who have achieved an unusually deep meditative state. A recent study of Buddhist monks in Tibet recorded Gamma brainwave activity in the region of 40 cycles per second, coinciding with their meditative activities, particularly when they had reached a higher state of clarity and insightfulness.

Given that manifestation calls for clarity of mind and focus, it need hardly be said that the ability to achieve these higher Gamma brainwave states would undoubtedly be of considerable benefit. In fact, there are those who believe that successful manifestation (as defined by The Law of Attraction) is virtually impossible for those who aren't capable of achieving these higher Gamma brainwave states.

This explains the recent explosion of interest amongst Law of Attraction devotees in binaural beats, monaural beats, isochronic tones and other brain entrainment systems to stimulate the brain into adopting a particular frequency.

The link between the gamma brainwave and manifestation is likely to become more pronounced as time goes by.

5 Top Tricks and Tips for Affirmations Preparation

Let's start with a quick précis of what, precisely, we mean by 'affirmations'. For those of you already familiar with the idea, you can skip straight to the paragraph headed '5 Top Tricks and Tips for Affirmations Preparation'.

In essence, an affirmation is a positive statement which when properly employed can reprogram your subconscious, a positive statement which when said repeatedly to yourself with genuine emotional intensity, can influence internal forces and can lead to the manifestation of dramatic changes in your life.

There are three fundamental stages to the affirmations process. The first stage is recognising that reality as you currently experience it exists as a direct result of your thoughts and thought processes. The second stage is recognising that if you change your thoughts and the way you think, you can change your reality. The third and final stage is reprogramming your subconscious to allow your thoughts and thought processes to change.

5 Top Tips and Tricks for Affirmations Preparation

1) Decide which aspect of your life will benefit most from the effective application of affirmations. Until you become proficient, it's generally a good idea to focus on one aspect at a time. In other words, start with a plan.

2) Always write your affirmations down. There are two benefits to this. Firstly, it will help you memorize them. Secondly, you're more likely to carefully consider your choice of words and phrasing. Which leads us neatly on to:

3) Only use positive words. Negative words (such as can't, never, don't, mustn't etc) can create negative feelings which can weaken your affirmations.

4) Always word your affirmations using the present tense. This creates a sense of immediacy. Past or future tenses create a sense of distance between you and your affirmations, which is unhelpful.

5) Schedule a specific time for your affirmations and try your best to stick to that time. Your affirmations need to take on the characteristics of a habit.

If you follow these 5 tips, you'll find your affirmations quickly become second nature.

10 Positive Outlook Affirmations

Those of you already au fait with the idea of affirmations can skip straight to the paragraph headed '10 Positive Outlook Affirmations'. For those of you who are a little uncertain, here is a very brief definition:

An affirmation is a positive and encouraging statement which when said over and over again to yourself with heartfelt emotional intensity, can alter your thoughts and, more significantly, your deeper thought processes. The Law of Attraction suggests that our immediate reality is shaped by our deeper thought processes (positive thoughts create a positive personal reality, negative thoughts generate a negative personal reality). Therefore, if we can control and 'make positive' our thoughts, we can dynamically influence the fundamental quality of our existence.

10 Positive Outlook Affirmations

1) The Universe is always with me. I can relax and let go because the Universe will support me.

2) I make new and inspiring friends wherever I go. Even before I reach out to others, they are reaching out to me.

3) The Universe meets all my needs in abundance. I have only to ask.

4) The Universe is attentive and treats me well, and so others are attentive and treat me well.

5) I am deeply grateful for the abundance of love and happiness in my life.

6) Wherever I go, I encounter love and affection. I am loved and appreciated just as I am.

7) Love is present and abundant in my heart right now. I can feel it, healing and nurturing.

8) The Universe wants me to be fulfilled. The Universe created me to be fulfilled. The Universe and I are as one in this.

9) There are no ruts in life. Every moment is new and unique. Every moment is charged with infinite possibilities.

10) I often set a little time aside to do the things I enjoy. The Universe supports me in this and wants me to be happy.

As with all affirmations, it is important that they feel right to you before you begin reciting them. Feel free to alter them to suit your own style and personality. Just remember to keep them positive and in the present tense.

Good luck.

What is the Morry Method Brain Entrainment System?

Before we take a look at the Morry Method Brain Entrainment System, here's a brief definition of brain entrainment for those of you who might be relatively new to the concept. Feel free to skip the following two paragraphs.

Brain entrainment employs external stimulus to encourage brainwave frequency to adopt a particular pattern, usually one that is suited to a specific activity. A good example of this external stimulus is Brion Gysin's and Ian Sommerville's 'dreamachine' which produces stroboscopic light patterns that stimulate the eye's optical nerve to alter the brain's electrical oscillations, inducing dream-state sleep. Other stimuli include binaural beats and monaural beats.

In effect, brain entrainment teaches your brain to behave differently, allowing you to more effectively control your thoughts. Many people in what might loosely be described as the 'New Thought Movement' (including exponents of The Law of Attraction), believe that the roots of our immediate circumstances (our happiness or the lack of it, our success or the lack of it) can be traced back to our thoughts. Every action begins with a thought. Every action has a consequence. The consequences of our actions dictate our circumstances. Therefore, our thoughts dictate our circumstances. Control your thoughts and you control your circumstances.

The Morry Method Brain Entrainment System, like Gysin's and Sommerville's dreamachine' stimulates brainwave activity. To do this, it uses audio of isochronic and monaural tones: these particular tones are considered to be more effective, as the peaks and troughs are more pronounced, creating greater stimulus (or Cortical Evoked Response) in the brain.

Because every individual is unique and their brainwaves are, therefore, also unique, the Morry Method Brain Entrainment System employs six different pitches of tone, so the user can choose the pitch that works most effectively for them.

The package includes a 'Neural Synergy' component designed to reorganise the brain to a higher level, an 'Eden Energy' component designed to increase energy levels, a 'Brain Gratitude Meditation' component to help the user gain a positive perspective on their life and an 'Emotive Brainwave Hypnosis' component designed to 're-wire' deep thinking patterns and eradicate old, potentially-destructive habits.

Brain entrainment is a relatively new field of mental exploration. The Morry Method may well establish itself as one of the frontrunners in its class.

5 Abraham-Hicks Processes for Abundance

There are many Abraham-Hicks processes for abundance, too many to include in a single article. So, here (following my investigation of many forums, blogs and websites) are five that have proven to be particularly popular and effective.

1) Which Thought Feels Better?
This is a simple process for generating positive thoughts. The more positive thoughts you generate, the less room there is for negative thoughts and the more positive thoughts become second nature to you. Think about an aspect of your life you feel needs some improvement. List five thoughts that relate to it. Which of those five thoughts made you feel better. Keep that thought, scratch out the other. Now, you need to come up with a thought that makes you feel even better in relation to this aspect of your life. Keep doing it until you have five thoughts, each making you feel better than the last.

2) Segment Intending.
This is essentially about breaking your intentions down into small, manageable and, most importantly, immediate goals. So, for example, immediately before you go into a job interview, you set the intention that the interview will go well and you will be confident and articulate. It's important to note here, that you are not pursuing the goal of 'getting the job', because that is a future outcome. You are purely looking at immediate intentions and results.

3) The Book of Positive Aspects.
The purpose of this process is to increase our positivity perception. Using a notebook (your Book of Positive Aspects), pick a subject. It can be a person or an activity (your job, for example), but the exercise will be more effective if you pick something you don't feel particularly good about. List all the positive things about your chosen subject. You'll find there are more than you imagined. With practice, you'll also find yourself finding ways to 're-describe' negative aspects of your subject in a positive way. For example, your supervisor no longer 'gives you hard time', instead he or she 'tests, and consequently strengthens, your patience'.

4) Magical Creation Box.

This process helps you focus on what you want and creates a real sense of anticipation that these things are imminent. You can either buy beautiful looking box or you csan make one using materials from an arts and crafts shop. Either way, the box needs to look special in some way. Label it your 'Magical Creation Box'. In the box put symbols of all the things you want. Images cut from magazines and catalogues work well. For example, an image of a sandy beach from a vacation brochure can be used to symbolise an exotic holiday. Add to a revisit your box often.

5) The Prosperity Game.

Each day, imagine you receive a check for $100. Imagine spending the money. All of it: no savings or investments are allowed. Really visualise making your purchases and enjoying them. The next day a check for $200 arrives. Repeat the same process. Each day a new check arrives for double the amount of the previous ($400, $800, $1600, $3200 and so on). This process helps you to achieve wealth perception. It prepares you for the receipt of wealth. If you aren't prepared for wealth, do you think it will really come to you?

Good luck.

Two simple affirmations experiments

Here's a couple of low-level affirmations experiments for those of you still leaning toward the cynical when it comes to The Law of Attraction and similar belief systems. A brief definition of precisely what affirmations are follows (feel free to skip the next paragraph if you're already familiar with the subject).

Affirmations are positive statements (sometimes referred to as 'scripts') that condition your subconscious mind to develop a positive perception of yourself. Affirmations can help you eradicate negative self-perception, enabling you to accomplish your goals. In a very real way, people use affirmations all the time. Unfortunately, most of these affirmations are along the lines of, 'I can't' and 'I'll never'. And, guess what? They come true all the time.

For both of these affirmations experiments, you'll need to write the affirmations down in your own hand (the kind of index cards you can get from any stationery store are ideal for this). Then, you will need to learn them by heart so you can recite them anywhere at any time. You may want to reword the affirmations so they're more in keeping with your own personality and style. If you do make changes, just remember to keep them positive and in the present tense.

Affirmations Experiment 1. Affirmation: Wherever I go, I encounter love and affection. A smile is never far away. The purpose of this affirmation is to have someone smile at you. A stranger, out of the blue. Repeat this affirmation before setting off somewhere reasonably crowded (a department store during your lunch break for example). Try it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Affirmations Experiment 2. Affirmation: Every moment is new and unique. Every moment is charged with infinite possibilities. The purpose of this affirmation is to have something new and interesting happen to you. It could be you meet a new person or encounter a new situation. Repeat this affirmation before setting off for work in the morning. It may take a few days, but something new and interesting will happen to you.
